In compliance with the Charter of the United Nations, which states that ‘international disputes shall be settled by peaceful means’ and ‘in international relations the threat or use of force shall be refrained from in all circumstances’, the UNFPA aims to exchange frank opinions and make concrete recommendations for the abolition of war and the realisation of human security.

Public Symposium "Beyond Nuclear Deterrence" as a Post-Event at the 63th Pugwash Conference on Science & World Affairs
On the closing day of the Pugwash Conference (Wednesday, November 5), from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, a public symposium hosted by Hiroshima Prefecture and HOPe was held at the International Conference Hall.
We invited two distinguished scientists who have been active globally for many years in the field of nuclear disarmament, including the Pugwash Conferences. Together with the citizens of Hiroshima Prefecture, we held a public symposium to consider the dangers of relying on nuclear deterrence and how to transition to security that does not depend on nuclear deterrence.
